All time will do...

All time will do is wait for you to catch it
Because you have to learn to match its pace
Step for step
Tick for tick
As the pendulum swings
Like the ticking bomb
On your curious existence
Marked by first grade images
Of senior graduations
And wedding photos
Of baby showers
And 50th anniversary toasts
That last 20 years
And end in a separation
With just a “X” on the dotted line
Of blacked-out nights
And wishfully forgotten affairs
Of the one-sided heart
That could transcend all else
Of glances stolen
From their rightful owner
As the authorities look on
And make no attempt at repercussions for the days
that were lost to childish frivolities
Instead of cubicles and 2 inch heels
And batting eyelashes
As the only form of communication
In the language of young girls
Who turned into mothers
As they lagged behind the times
Of fashion icons
And iPod touches
Are out of touch
With reality
And are missing the point
Of the current time
Because still
After all these years
They can’t seem to match the swing
Of the ticking time bomb
And all time will do is wait for you to catch it
